John is a Midland Railway 4F that currently works on Edward's Branch.He was built in 1910 at Crewe.He arrived on Sodor in 1939,but got into an accident.He was found in 2017 by James,and was put into operation again.

He was built in 1912 as the first member of the Midland Railway 4F class.Originally used for goods services around the Midland,he was reallocated to a branch line for slow goods and passengers.When the Big 4 were formed,he was sent to the LMS for goods work and maintenance on both the West Coast Main Line and the Midland Mainline.One day,in 1924,he had an accident on the Midland Main Line whilst hauling a goods train.A train was up ahead and he couldn't stop in time.He ended up getting new brakes as well as a new coat of maroon with gold lining.
